In 80 wineries around the world

It was always my dream to travel the world, but first and foremost to indulge my passion: wine. For this passion, I was prepared to do crazy things.

On this trip, I wanted to visit eighty wineries and immerse myself in the landscapes that produce good wines, and to meet the people who help wine become what it is - the second most beautiful thing in the world.

It took me a while to find a route that covered as many wineries as possible, including those whose valuable wines are known to lovers. But I also wanted to discover the unknown.

I would like to share what I experienced on this trip with my readers. It is not intended to be a catalog of wine ratings, nor a manual on the science of winemaking, but rather a report on wine around the world and on the people I met along the way. But a little general information about wine should not be missing and I will include it here and there.

This book contains beautiful memories and experiences from my trip around the world to visit 80 wineries.

• You will get to know wines from the new world.

• You will get inspiration for your next trip planning.

• You will want to try wines that are still unknown to you.

Wine is not just pleasure, wine is the joy of life!

The No. 1 in the Rankings

Mendoza - at the summit - Argentina - July 31st

It wasn't the fantastic view of the snow-capped peaks of the Andes, not the racy tango dancers, not the gauchos, not the steaks and not even the Iguazú waterfalls that brought me here, no, it was the passion of my life - wine.

I waited in my hotel room in Mendoza on Plaza Italia with anxious hope to get a visit to the Zuccardi winery. No chance, I was told, unfortunately, because I hadn't booked in time. But you should never give up hope... I was able to book a wine tour including Zuccardi at the hotel.

The next morning, the tour guide Pedro picked me up in his bus. But as it quickly turned out, I had been trading in olives. The first stop was an olive grove followed by a visit to the Zuccardi family's oil mill. My disappointment obviously made an impression on Pedro. He offered to take me over to a wine tasting - between three olives with stones. We drove to the Santa Julia winery, two kilometers away, happily forgoing any more oil in our throats.

There we had a private wine tasting of their Cabernet Sauvignons, Malbecs, Syrahs and their delicious white wine Torrontes 2018.

Although the young sommelier Gimena did a good job, it was not the top winery on my list. Unfortunately, her attempt to get me an appointment there for the next day by phone was also unsuccessful.

The fact that I still got a tour of the number 1 on my wine list is thanks to my sense of smell. Because after I had made my way back to the olive junkies on foot, slightly disappointed, and wandered through the picturesque vineyards, I smelled meat. And when we men smell meat, we follow the trail. This led me to an open fire, over which a lamb was hanging at a 45-degree angle, which I photographed using Pavlovian reflex:
